WL-S keeps winning in ACME baseball tournament

LONDON – The West Liberty-Salem ACME Tigers defeated London in an ACME baseball district final, 5-2, Monday night.

Ben Hyland was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt and Levi Moell was 2-for-2 with a single, a double and 2 runs scored. Chase Humphrey got the Tigers on the board with a single, driving in Moell to put the Tigers up 1-0 with 2 outs in the third inning. Trevor Burden then plated 2 with a clutch 2-run single to put the Tigers up 3-0.

Winning pitcher Hyland pitched 5 innings, struck out 7 and only surrendered 2 hits. Thomas Allen came on in relief and struck out 3 to close the door for the Tigers.

The Tigers played London again for the district championship Tuesday night at London High School. The winner advances to Celina for the ACME state tournament. Results for that game were not available by press time.

Slow-pitch softball

The Monday Night Adult Softball league had tournament action on Monday, with the scores in the championship bracket as follows: YMCA 20, Climbers 9; Mechanicsburg Christian Fellowship 9, Renewed Strength Church 7; Urbana United Methodist Church 20, YMCA 9. In the consolation ladder, Renewed Strength Church beat Climbers, 13-1.
