Triad baseball peaking at just the right time

The Triad baseball team kept getting better as the season progressed, and the Cardinals now find themselves two wins away from a Division IV state title.

Triad will play Cuyahoga Heights in a state semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m. in Columbus at Huntington Park, the home of the Columbus Clippers.

The Cardinals seem to be peaking at just the right time of the season, but no matter how things go this weekend, they have put together a fantastic 2016 campaign.

Urbana High School senior Trenton Dunham has switched gears and decided to attend the Cincinnati Reds game on Aug. 3, where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch as winner of the Harvey Haddix Memorial Sportsmanship Award.

It’s amazing how out of control things got with the Baylor University football program, although it’s certainly not the only college where such things are occurring.

In big-time college sports, it’s all about winning – and in turn, money – particularly for a program like Baylor’s that had been down for so long.

Former BU Coach Art Briles knew that his multi-million dollar contract would continue to be renewed as long as he was winning 10 or 11 games per season … he apparently didn’t have the time or interest to deal with players who were accused of crimes like sexual assault and domestic violence.

Former Ohio University Coach Jim Grobe – who was out of coaching the last two seasons – takes over for Briles in what could be a situation in which it is impossible to succeed.

Trivia Time – Urbana native Clancy Brown co-starred in “The Express,” a movie about Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis.

This week’s question – What was Jim Grobe’s overall record as coach of the Ohio University football team?
