WL-S runners shine at Schul Invitational

WEST MILTON — The West Liberty-Salem boys cross country team finished 5th out of 22 teams in the Division III race at the Bob Schul Invitational.

“Coming into the meet it was our goal to finish top 5 and to do that with so many inexperienced guys making their first true competitive start is amazing to see,” WL-S Coach Mike Louden said.

Joey Adams (2nd, 16:44) and Ross Kelley (8th, 17:26) paced the Tigers with a pair of top-10 finishes.

Nick Williams (24th, 18:18), Charlie Williams (42nd, 18:44), Isaac Smith (62nd, 19:07), Konner Smith (77th, 19:36), Andrew Landis (85th, 19:50), Tyler Louden (92nd, 20:06), Jordan Lewis (93rd, 20:06), Bryan Woods (94th, 20:06), James Loffing (101st, 20:19), Kannon Stillings (127th, 21:21) and Zavier Esch (128th, 21:22) all competed for WL-S.

The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team placed 7th out of 18 teams at the Bob Schul Invitational Saturday in West Milton.

Caylee Karg finished 49th in 22:38 to pace the Tigers. Leah Cole (53rd, 22:47), Lauren Fowler (56th, 22:56), Jenna Magnuson (60th, 23:12), Sarah Painter (67th, 23:28), Taylor Henault (89th, 24:42), Kaeley Lattimer (101st, 25:12), Anna Louden (110th, 25:29) and Madison Woodruff (126th, 26:10) rounded out the competition for WL-S.

The Tigers compete in the Logan County Meet Tuesday at Indian Lake High School.

Graham volleyball wins

SIDNEY — Graham defeated Sidney 25-23, 25-13 in non-league volleyball Saturday.

For the Falcons, Lisa DeWeese had 11 kills and Katie Milligan had 8 kills and 3 blocks. Molly Hamilton had 22 assists and 3 aces.

The Falcons beat Minster 25-22, 25-21. DeWeese had 7 kills. Milligan and Carly Carafa had 5 kills each and Hamilton had 26 assists.

The Falcons are 2-0 and open CBC action on Tuesday when they travel to Urbana.

Triad volleyball loses

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan beat Triad 25-15, 25-18 in a volleyball tri-match.

Madison Dolby had 7 kills for Triad, Jenna Ober had 13 digs and Lydia Walls had 10 digs. Allyssa Eaton had 3 blocks.

The Cardinals also dropped a match to North Union 25-11, 26-28, 25-11.

Ober had 25 digs, Dolby had 9 kills, 2 blocks and 8 assists and Eaton had 5 kills and 2 blocks.

Triad (0-3) plays at Southeastern on Tuesday.

Triad’s jayvee team lost to Ben Logan 25-19, 25-23. For Triad, Tori Thomas had 10 points, Jennifer Sizemore had 9 points, 3 kills and 3 assists and Kayleigh Rice added 3 digs.

The junior varsity also lost to North Union, 25-20, 25-25. For Triad, Thomas had 7 points. Kristin Bailey had 10 points and 4 aces, Rice had 9 points which included 3 aces and Sizemore had 3 kills and 5 assists.

Hillclimbers top Indians in soccer

Urbana defeated Mechanicsburg 4-1 in girls soccer Saturday.

Jennifer Tracy scored a pair of goals to lead the Hillclimbers. Magdaline Perry and Cassidy James scored the other goals. Tracy had an assist, James had an assist and Val Batova had an assist.

For M’burg, Kameron Loveless scored unassisted in the second half.

“The girls came out strong and took the game to Mechanicsburg,” UHS Coach Brandon Deskins said. “I was very proud of their first half effort and their ability to control the game. It was a nice team victory.”

Urbana is 1-2 overall.

Urbana tennis loses

The Urbana girls tennis team team lost to Wayne, 4-1, in non-league action.

At second singles, Morgan Lattimer won 7-5, 6-0.

At first singles, Haylee Johns lost 6-1, 6-0.

The doubles team of Bri Ussher and Katie Asper lost in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).

Middle school cross country

The West Liberty-Salem Middle School Cross Country teams were in action Saturday at the Bob Schul Invitational hosted in West Milton.

The girls team placed 3rd of of 26 teams. There were 333 runners.

Grace Adams (5th, 12:47), Madison Bahan (6th, 12:51), Payton Umphries (32nd, 13:42), Katelyn Stapleton (34th, 13:45), Lydie Moell (67th, 14:39), Savannah Weaver (98th, 15:13), Aaliyah Speert (140th, 15:59), Tory Pawelko (184th, 16:51), Sailor Levan (282nd, 19:35), Lili Davis (284th, 19:44), Mikaela Holbridge (303rd, 20:36) and Jessie Boy (313th, 21:51) all competed for teh Tigers.

The boys team placed out of 19 out of 31 teams.There were runners 388 runners.

Noah Smith (12th, 11:44), Hayden Kennedy (123rd, 13:40), Gavin Harrison (133rd, 13:47), Cade Clerico (208th, 14:20) and Ian Maurice (248th, 15:10) were in action for WL-S.

The teams compete Tuesday at the Logan County Meet hosted at Indian Lake High School.
