Books open doors for youths

Last Thursday I attended a literacy program at Graham Elementary with my grandchildren. A group of staff members applied for and were awarded a grant to fund literacy program. Funds from the grant provide books through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library monthly for children in the district 6 months to 5 years old. Last week’s event was enjoyed by children of all ages. They participated in activities to earn books, face painting, and the children loved having books read to them by staff members dressed as some of their favorite characters.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone who helped make this vision a reality. To quote Dr. Seuss, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
