NORTH LEWISBURG – Village council made an appointment to fill a vacancy and accepted the resignation of a council member during last week’s regular meeting.

Council appointed Jennifer Watson during the Feb. 2 meeting. The appointment filled the vacancy left by Cheryl Hollingsworth when she became the mayor.

Council also accepted the resignation letter from council member Dave Scott. Scott’s term was set to expire at the end of 2017.

Hollingsworth requested volunteers from council to form a sub-committee to interview for Scott’s replacement.

Village Administrator Andy Yoder said anyone interested in the vacant council seat can submit a resume to the administration office, 60 E. Maple St., by 4 p.m. on Feb. 19.

In other action:

•Council passed a resolution allowing the village administrator to sit on the Champaign County Health District Board Advisory Council in place of the mayor. Council also passed a resolution regarding internet auction sales of unwanted or unused village property.

•Hollingsworth stated the annual Union County Covered Bridge Festival will be Sept. 23-25. Village garage sale days will also be held on the same date.

•Yoder informed council about the holiday schedule for Allied Waste, the local refuse company. Trash will not be collected on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Trash pickup will be held one day behind the normal pickup day.
