A driver involved in a crash that killed long-time Urbana City Schools board member Warren Stevens had their driver’s license suspended in the Champaign County Municipal Court Friday.

Kristen L. Reed pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, a second degree misdemeanor, during a pretrial hearing.

As part of sentencing, Reed’s driver’s license was suspended for two years starting Friday and she was placed on community control for three years, had a 90-day jail sentence suspended, and was fined $750 along with court costs.

Charges of vehicular homicide and failure to yield were dismissed as part of the plea resolution.

Reed, 44, was facing charges stemming from a Sept. 28, 2016, crash. On that date, Champaign County deputies were dispatched to the intersection of North Ludlow Road and East Kanagy Road.

A 1998 Ford Expedition driven by Reed was traveling westbound on East Kanagy Road when she allegedly failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, causing the vehicle to collide with a 2014 Honda Accord driven by Stevens – who was traveling northbound on North Ludlow Road.

Stevens’ vehicle spun and was hit in the rear by a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 heavy duty truck traveling southbound on North Ludlow Road.

Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Other conditions of sentencing require Reed to undergo a mental health assessment, submit to alcohol and drug screens along with not consuming drugs or alcohol, and she was ordered to perform 180 hours of community service.
