MECHANICSBURG – Do you have a Mechanicsburg-area relative, spouse or friend who served or is serving in the military? The Mechanicsburg Public Library is seeking information from residents as it prepares a May 30 presentation to honor veterans and present military personnel.

Library archive photos of Tommy Thompson, Wallace McCoy, Charles Anderson, Woody Zimmerman, Jim Mahoy, Robert Reed, Karen Williams Brewer and many others will be included in the power-point presentation honoring local veterans from the Civil War to the present.

Residents may submit photos and information by stopping by the library now through April 29. Photos will be scanned immediately with the original returned to submitters. A brief information sheet will need to be completed. Those wishing to submit information electronically can attach photos in an email to [email protected] with the following information: Veteran’s name, date of birth and death (if applicable), branch of service, years of service or war and any additional information submitters wish to share.

The public can view the presentation May 30 noon to 2 p.m. or any day after that by inquiring at the service desk.

Tommy Thompson (1839-1927), a member of Co. A of the 66th OVI, received the American Civil War Medal of Honor. During the Battle of Chancellorsville (Virginia), he was one of four men who captured a Confederate officer and gained important information of the South’s battle plan.
