Village wastewater plant deemed in compliance

MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg Wastewater Treatment Plant received a seal of approval from the state, Village Council learned Monday.

According to Village Administrator April Huggins-Davis, the village received positive reviews from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency following a recent surprise inspection of the sewer plant.

“He (Ohio EPA representative) said that everything looked great and that we were in compliance,” Huggins-Davis said. In addition, the village was informed it would receive a compliance letter, something Huggins-Davis said the village hasn’t received since she came on board years ago.

Huggins-Davis said the state applauded the work of Chris Beaver, the village’s WWTP operator since September 2016.

Public warnings issued

Police Chief John Alexander warned village residents of two potential scams that have popped up locally. One, he said, involves individuals targeting the elderly by pretending to be with area gas or electric companies with the goal of obtaining personal information from their victims.

The other scam to be on the lookout for involves individuals going door-to-door selling Omaha Steaks. Alexander said the company doesn’t sell door-to-door. Instead, criminals promise steaks, but don’t deliver once payment is received.

Alexander also warned residents not to leave unoccupied cars running. He said such a car was stolen at a village gas station by a inmate recently released from the Tri-County Regional Jail.

•Council passed a motion agreeing to spend up to $1,000 to replace the stove and sink in the municipal building’s kitchen, which is used by the village’s first responders.
