MERCER COUNTY – Three men charged for breaking into a St. Paris gas station in 2015 were sentenced in Mercer County over the last two months for theft crimes committed around the state.

In November, John W. Coile Jr., 51, was sentenced to 17 years in prison for charges stemming from a string of thefts in Ohio including a break-in at the St. Paris Sunoco gas station, 355 W. Main St.

On the night of April 26, 2015, St. Paris Police reported the front door of the Sunoco gas station was pried open allowing a suspect to gain entry once the glass was broken. An ATM containing about $10,560 was removed from the gas station during the incident through the front door.

Mercer County deputies arrested Coile on May 17, 2015, after theft of cigarettes from TJ’s Grocerette in Rockford. In that incident, numerous cartons of cigarettes, vapor pens and vapor juice refills valued at about $10,039 were taken. Damages and other associated costs reportedly totaled about $2,185.

Coile and two other men reportedly had forced their way into the small grocery store at 11:32 p.m. after it had closed.

Coile pleaded guilty in October to 12 counts of fifth-degree felony breaking and entering and one count of second-degree felony engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. The charges were among 36 he was indicted for according to court records and the remaining charges were dismissed.

Danny Longstreath, 66, and his nephew Kenneth Longstreath, 41, were both arrested on the same day during a traffic stop in the 4900 block of state Route 707, and Coile was arrested during a stop at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Morrow Road.

The Longstreaths were both placed on community control for a period of up to three years in December. Danny Longstreath was ordered to pay $8,763.07 in restitution while Kenneth Longstreath was ordered to pay $9,235.53 in restitution.

“St. Paris Police would like to thank all the agencies involved in the investigation including Mercer County Prosecutor (Matthew) Fox and his office for handling of the combined cases,” St. Paris Police Sgt. Zach Wilkson stated. “This is another fine example of multiple agencies coming together to actively pursue, prosecute and bring these criminal individuals to justice.”
