WL-S school board approves new treasurer

WEST LIBERTY – West Liberty-Salem Local Schools approved a new treasurer Tuesday.

The school board approved hiring Chelsea Baldwin, effective July 1, 2017, to July 31, 2020. Her salary will be $75,941.60 per year and prorated for the first month of employment.

Baldwin is now the assistant treasurer, current Treasurer Steve Godwin said. She has been at the district for more than two years, he said.

Godwin is retiring, and his last day will be June 30, 2017. Godwin said in his retirement announcement that changes to the state’s School Employees Retirement System encouraged him to retire sooner than he wanted. He said he wanted to stay until the completion of the current school building project.

In other action, the board:

•Approved mentors of the Resident Educator program and set payment for a year 1 or 2 Resident Educator at $500 per candidate mentored; $250 per candidate mentored for a year 3 or 4 Resident Educator.

•Approved Sophomore Class Advisors Cheryl Shank (50 percent) at Step 3 and Jodi Unger (50 percent) at Step 1 for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved Junior Class Advisors Molly Perdue (50 percent) at Step 1 and Andy Perdue (50 percent) at Step 0 for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved the renewal of Perry Pro Tech’s 60-month lease for copier equipment, with each payment at $7,105 per month.

•Approved the Indoor Track and Field Team as an interscholastic, self-supported program at West Liberty-Salem for the 2016-17 winter season.

•Approved substitute food service workers for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved Bonnie Herron as a regular part-time (three hour) per day food service employee at Step 1 for the 2016-17 school year, beginning Nov. 14, 2016.

•Approved hiring MS Cheerleading Coach Erin Durand at Step 1, 1/2 Head Varsity Cheer Coach Taylor Levan at Step 0, and 1/2 Head Varsity Cheer Coach Emily Hess at Step 3, for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved Head MS Cross Country Coach Aaron Lauck at Step 3 for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved Seventh Grade MS Girls Basketball Coach Bruce Schlabach at Step 3 for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved Alycia Smith as a Saturday School monitor and to receive the Schoology/Office 365 Training Stipend in the amount of $50 for the 2016-17 school year.

•Approved setting the annual Tax Budget Hearing and Organizational Meeting for 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, in the middle school/high school media center.

•Approved joining the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund and authorizing the treasurer to pay $250 to the fund.

•Approved and appropriated the OECN Public Schools Connectivity Grant for $3,600.

•Approved filling the vacant Assistant to the Treasurer position and authorized starting the process of posting, interviewing and hiring an individual.

•Approved the new depository agreement with Civista Bank for the term of Jan. 1, 2017 to Dec. 31, 2022.
