A resolution in response to a request by a public utility company to install a mono-pole in the public right of way on College Way will undergo a first reading during Urbana City Council’s 6 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers.

The resolution outlines OH Exchange Facilities Networks LLC’s desire to place a 120-foot utility pole in the city-owned right of way near Urbana University. The pole would serve as a telecommunications facility, the company’s request states.

If approved by council, the resolution calls for OH Exchange Facilities Networks, also doing business as Mobilitie LLC, to not only seek approval from the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) for a conditional use permit, but also site plan approval from the city Planning Commission. If approved by the BZA and Planning Commission, the resolution states, the director of administration or his designee will negotiate a franchise agreement with OH Exchange Facilities Networks.

Also scheduled to undergo a first reading (suspension of the three-readings rule requested) is a resolution accepting Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funding in the amount of $43,149. Administered by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, VOCA funds provide support services to crime victims and witnesses.

If approved by council, the city would be required to provide a local match of 20 percent or $8,629.80.
