Moonrise over Mechanicsburg

0

A full moon rises over the football field at Mechanicsburg on Friday. As October moves along, tree foliage is changing colors, but ash trees like the ones pictured left of the moon are mere shadows of their former selves. The weekend featured what is known as a super Hunter’s Moon. A super moon occurs when the moon’s orbit bring it to its closest point toward Earth, causing it to appear larger. A Hunter’s Moon is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon, which occurs closest to autumnal equinox. Hunter’s Moons rise earlier near sunset, allowing more overall daylight for traditional hunters. Both types of moons, Harvest and Hunter’s, are also known as blood moons due to their reddish appearance on the horizon.
