WEST LIBERTY – The Green Hills Community in West Liberty will host the “Iron Man Part II Blood Drive” from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, again supporting neighbor Scott Boyd, who was severely injured in an August farm accident.

Boyd sustained a “shark bite” wound to his hip and back on Aug. 12 when caught in the blades of his bush hog while mowing a pasture on his West Liberty property. He survived after receiving transfusions of more than 108 units of blood and blood products. The first “Iron Man” blood drive at Green Hills on Aug. 31 drew overwhelming support from West Liberty neighbors.

Boyd has additional surgeries ahead to replace his shattered hip, but returned home on Oct. 4 after seven-and-a-half weeks of hospital care.

Every appointment was filled for the first “Iron Man’ blood drive, which CBC and Green Hills expanded to accommodate more donors.

Capacity was again expanded for the Oct. 26 “Iron Man Part II” blood drive, and the appointment schedule is nearly full. Donors can schedule an appointment to donate at Green Hills (or to donate in Boyd’s honor at another CBC blood drive) online at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a “Buckeye Strong Blood Donor” ceramic coffee tumbler.

Scott Boyd relaxes and recuperates with two pals.
