Injury crash under investigation

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle injury crash that occurred Sunday.

According to the sheriff’s office, on Sunday at 4:26 p.m., the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle auto accident with possible injuries at East U.S. Route 36, at state Route 814.

Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS responded along with sheriff’s deputies.

At the scene of the crash officials found a red 2000 Toyota SUV driven by Stephanie Acker, 45, of Cardington, had been traveling westbound on East U.S. Route 36. A black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Baillee Sells, 18, of DeGraff, was traveling southbound and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of state Route 814 and East U.S. Highway 36.

Sells then reportedly pulled into the path of Acker, causing a minor injury to Acker. Mechanicsburg EMS transported Acker to Mercy Memorial Hospital.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
