This is the east building at Urbana High School, 500 Washington Ave., which is in the process of being demolished in order to proceed with construction of a new high school. According to the preliminary site plan approved by the Urbana Planning Commission in February, the school district intends to demolish the majority of the high school/junior high to build a new high school just east of the current facility. The “Castle,” visible in the background, and the high school gymnasium and auditorium, will remain, the plans show. A final site plan will be reviewed by the Planning Commission during its next meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, in the municipal building’s upstairs fire training room.
