Fido’s Swimfest is Sunday

0

The Champaign County Citizens for Canines (CCCC) is hosting the third annual Fido’s Swimfest from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, at the city pool in Melvin Miller Park. Residents and their “Fidos” are invited to cool off from the dog days of summer. There is no charge to attend. Even those without a Fido are invited to participate.

Local pet rescues will be on hand in hopes of matching families with a homeless pet. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance of winning a variety of items donated by local businesses, including gift certificates, fairy gardens and merchandise. Hot dogs will be available by donation. Also, several vendors will be present with goodies to hand out to participants.

CCCC is thankful to the city of Urbana and the pool manager, Cheryl Wade, for allowing people to enjoy the final day of the season at the pool with their dogs. The group also expressed appreciation for the support of local businesses.

Proceeds from the event will support Fido’s Field Dog Park at Melvin Miller Park.

Boomer and Archie Hildreth enjoy last year’s Swimfest. They were accompanied to the event by their person, Beth Hildreth.
