Council to consider replacing HVAC unit

The Urbana Municipal Building’s HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system could receive a $20,000-plus upgrade if City Council signs off on the expense during its 6:15 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers.

The administration seeks authorization to purchase a new Lennox HVAC unit from Reliant Mechanical Inc., East Liberty, in the amount of $22,374. The unit would replace one of the municipal building’s rooftop units.

Also during the meeting, the administration will ask for approval to move forward with maintenance work on various city-owned poles.

The work, which would be carried out by city-based Superior Painting at a cost of $15,000, would involve the painting of traffic signal poles, pedestrian crossing poles and decorative light poles throughout the city.

The administration also will seek approval to increase a purchase order to Blaugrund, Herbert & Martin Inc. by $10,000 for general labor and employment law support.

On April 19, council approved the original purchase order in the amount of $15,000.

Legislative matters

Two resolutions and one ordinance will be presented to council with one scheduled for a vote.

A resolution supporting the creation of a county land bank in accordance with Ohio Revised Code section 5722.02 will undergo a third and final reading.

The second reading of an ordinance adopting the city’s tax budget for fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2017, will be heard.

Finance Director Chris Boettcher stated during council’s June 7 meeting that citizens interested in discussing the tax budget with her can do at a public hearing prior to the council meeting at 6 p.m. today in municipal court chambers.

As for first readings, the lone resolution scheduled to be introduced to council calls for the establishment of a stormwater advisory committee to assist city staff and make recommendations to council.
