HARRISON TWP. – A single vehicle fatal rollover crash from Wednesday evening is under investigation, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press release, Deidra M. Davidson, 51, of Rosewood, was the only occupant of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. The crash occurred in Harrison Township.
At 9:32 p.m., the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a single vehicle rollover crash which occurred on Nine Mile Road at West state Route 29. Rosewood Fire and EMS along with Champaign County sheriff deputies responded to the location.
At the scene, a 2005 black Dodge Durango had been traveling east on West state Route 29 and crossed over the intersection onto Nine Mile Road. The roadway transitioned from asphalt to a freshly tarred and graveled surface.
The vehicle lost control going off the right side of the roadway edge and rolled numerous times into a bean field.
Rosewood emergency medical personnel were able to extricate Davidson and CareFlight was also called and responded to the scene. Davidson was later pronounced dead at the scene by Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Multi County Crash Investigation Team.
A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that speed may have been a factor and it appeared that Davidson was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
