A woman was arrested in Champaign County early Tuesday morning after fleeing a crash in Union County.

Chelsea L. Olsen, 25, of 21231 N. Darby Coe Road, Milford Center, was charged with endangering children, failure to maintain physical control of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana paraphernalia following a traffic stop.

According to a press release from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:42 a.m., the Champaign County-Wide Communication Center received information from the Union County 911 center in reference to a hit-skip crash occurring on state Route 4. Union County dispatchers advised the vehicle that fled the scene was a 2005 Silver Chrysler Pacifica.

At 2:35 a.m., Champaign County sheriff deputies received information that the vehicle was parked off the roadway at Ault Road and East U.S. Highway 36. Deputies responded to the area and found the vehicle off the roadway in a ditch.

The vehicle was occupied by Olsen and her 10-month-old child was in a carseat in the back of the vehicle. Olsen told deputies that she was traveling to Plain City.

Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage upon Olsen’s person and observed an unopened bottle of beer and evidence of marijuana.

Olsen was placed under arrest and did submit to a blood alcohol concentration breath test. She was taken to the Tri-County Regional Jail, Mechanicsburg.

The child was released to family members that were called to the location.
