Six injured in 3-vehicle crash

A three-vehicle crash on Friday at 3:45 p.m. caused six people to be injured and transported to area hospitals.

According to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser was northbound on Springfield-Urbana Pike (state Route 72) north of County Line Road where it stopped to turn into Harvest Square mobile home park. A 2004 Ford Taurus was traveling northbound and did not see the PT Cruiser stopped, rear-ended it and pushed it into the southbound lane. A 1997 Honda Accord was traveling southbound and struck the PT Cruiser head on.

In the PT Cruiser, driver Jeanene Moyer – a 53-year-old female from Urbana – was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight, with fractured ribs and some internal bleeding. Passenger Robert Moyer – a 45-year-old male from Urbana – was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by MedFlight. Both were in stable condition after treatment.

In the Accord, driver Tyler Ferryman – a 30-year-old male from Springfield – was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital by Moorefield Township EMS, and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. After treatment, Ferryman was listed in stable condition. Passenger David Madwell – 22-year-old male from Springfield – was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital by Moorefield Township EMS, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

In the Taurus, driver Donald Smith – a 79-year-old male from Springfield – was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital by Urbana EMS and was being observed for possible heart issues. Passenger Nancy Smith – a 78-year-old female from Springfield – was transported to Urbana Mercy Memorial Hospital by German Township EMS, where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and no formal traffic charges have been filed.
