Pianist Taylor Wang to give May 15 concert

In the final concert in the annual Sunday concert series, the Champaign County Arts Council will present pianist Taylor Wang at 4 p.m. May 15 at the Arts Council gallery, 119 Miami St., Urbana.

Tickets are available at the Arts Council office, on the website (www.champaigncountyartscouncil.org) and at the door. Admission is $15.

Fourteen-year-old pianist and composer Taylor Wang started to play the piano with her mother at the age of 3. She made her Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 9 after she won the gold and grand prizes in the World Piano Competition in 2011.

In 2012, she competed in the American Association for the Development of the Gifted and Talented International Young Gifted Musicians Festival, “Passion of Music,” and won the gold medal with scholarship. She was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall again.

Taylor made her symphonic debut with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra as a soloist at the age of 10. She is the youngest winner of the WDPR 88.1 FM Young Talent Search.

In 2013, Taylor was the winner of the elementary group in the OMTA Buckeye audition. She has received scholarships from numerous organizations including Saarburg Festival of Germany, NAGC, OAGC, OMTA and Music Loves Ohio.

Taylor has been the Ohio Junior winner of the MTNA Composition Competition for the past two years with her string quartet and brass quintet compositions. She won the Richmond Young Artist Competition and performed the Poulenc Concerto Pour Piano et Orchestre as a soloist with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in 2014.

Recently, Taylor won the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition 2015 and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall for the third time in March 2016.

Taylor has performed at master classes with Nelita True, Jerry Wong, Michelle Conda, Elena Rossman, Louis Nagel, Emile Naoumoff, John O’Conor, and Lang Lang. She has studied piano with Michael Chertock, Nina Polonsky and Eric Street. Currently, she studies piano performance with Sergei Polusmiak.
