Cuttahotha Society of Children of the American Revolution concluded its annual donation of books to charities in Columbus in late March. Three vehicles completely loaded with boxes of books moved in caravan to the various agencies.

The books were welcomed at each stop. Members grew in their understanding of the lives they were touching with these contributions. The Ohio Society DAR Literacy Chairman, Diane Gosser, met the caravan and assisted with deliveries. She has indicated how impressed she has been with the group and their dedication to serving others.

She provided lunch at a nearby restaurant. The owners were so impressed with the efforts of the young persons that they presented them with a cake denoting the work of the members.

C.A.R. Senior President Kim Snyder said, “We have delivered over 3,000 books in the last year to agencies who are servicing ignored groups. We are very excited to be able to help improve literacy efforts to children who do not have access to libraries, a day shelter for adults, a shelter for teenagers, prisoner libraries across the state, and to active duty soldiers serving overseas.

“The members of Cuttahotha Society C.A.R. have been excited about the project, and about helping people in need of books. I am grateful for the support of the Urbana Chapter DAR. Our C.A.R. Society can only exist with help of our DAR sponsor, and they have helped us pick up, sort and deliver books four times.”

The C.A.R. Society expressed appreciation to the Urbana Daily Citizen for publicizing the need for donations, the local Family YMCA and First Presbyterian Church for providing collection points, the many persons who donated books, and the Mechanicsburg Library and Glenn Lewis for their special assistance.

The next meeting of the C.A.R. Society will be a joint meeting and potluck with the Urbana Chapter DAR. The meeting will be an early celebration of Flag Day to be held at the Champaign County Historical Society on Friday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m.
