With spring semester finals less than a week away, over two dozen Urbana University students sought out stress relief in the form of man’s best friend during a pet therapy session Tuesday in the Swedenborg Memorial Library.

Princess, an 8-year-old female Lhasa apso, relaxed while being petted by a student. Springfield resident Sue Stephens, Princess’ owner, said her trusting companion has been through two major surgeries in the past four years. The most recent surgery, to remove cancer from inside an ear, left her deaf in that ear. Stephens and Princess are a registered pet therapy team through Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

Bailey, a 15-year-old female miniature schnauzer, also interacted with several of the students. Bailey’s owner, Springfield resident Sandy Wolfarth, is also registered to provide pet therapy services through Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
