Clark County event to benefit human trafficking victims

SPRINGFIELD – Human trafficking victims are finding healing, rescue and empowerment through organizations such as Women At Risk International (WAR). This Michigan-based charitable organization works with victims both in the United States and internationally, providing education, safe houses, job skills training, counseling, child care, health services and more.

WAR raises funds for these efforts in part by selling jewelry, scarves, toys, ornaments, gifts, home décor and more. Many of the products are created by victims who wish to become financially independent. Financial stability is essential for victims to remain free of the sex industry and to minimize risk for their children. Every dollar earned through the purchase of products or donations is returned to the organization to continue to alleviate the suffering of modern-day slaves.

The public is invited to learn more about human trafficking and help empower victims and at-risk individuals by purchasing products at the open house WAR fundraising event 1-5 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Forest Glen Legacy Clubhouse, 2150 Montego Drive, Springfield. Montego Drive is just off Middle Urbana Road, south of Kenton Ridge High School and north of state Route 334. For more information about human trafficking and WAR, go to http://warinternational.org.
