Master Gardeners host ‘Make it, Take it’ event

The Champaign County Master Gardener Volunteers are announcing their annual “Make it, Take it” herb pot project scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon April 30 in the Champaign County Library.

This year they have added a twist. Straight from the gardeners’ own kitchens, they will be offering samples of some goodies that use popular herbs for visitors to taste.

As usual, for the Make it, Take it pot, they are providing the 12-inch planter pot, potting soil and 5 herbs to be potted by participants. There will be plenty of help and advice on herb culture as well. The cost for this activity is only $25. Planting tools will also be provided for use the day of the event. Remember, this is a hands-on project. You may want to bring gloves if you are afraid to get a little dirty.

In addition, there will be individual herb plants available to the public for sale. The cost of these plants is $3 each. You do not have to purchase the Make it, Take it Pot to purchase the individual herb plants.

Materials are limited on the Make it, Take it potting project. Please sign up in advance at the library to ensure your reservation.

There is no need to sign up to purchase individual herbs. But come early so your favorites are not sold out.

Any herb plants not sold at this event will be available at the Farmers Market beside the Fire Station beginning Saturdays in May.
